EMPLOYMENT-Income Generating Programme

We run these production cum vocational unit, in order to give employment atleast to those who have completed education and training in our centre and to give employment to the adult differently abled who are not much literate, deserving and those neglected by the families and societies.

Printing Press :

This unit was started in 1986 under the Central Social Welfare Board grant-in-aid programme. Here, about 6 handicapped adult girls who are trained in composing, printing and book-binding. An instructor and a machine operator are taking care of the unit. This printing press not only fulfills the requirement of the institution, but also gets orders from outside and runs in a self-sufficient manner.

Mikky visual aids and toys :

This unit manufactures wooden visual aids and educational toys under the trade name "Mikky Visual Aids and Toys". These toys are of great use to special children and kindergarten children to improve their basic skills. Their light weight and soft edges make them user-friendly toys. The toys made in this unit are of international quality wood and are being exported to various countries and also sold locally to various Schools in India.Twelve handicapped adults are provided employment by this unit.

Below are some examples and their uses:
Aim : To teach general awareness

With peg boards at the initial stage the child learns to fill all the blank holes by inserting the pegs in it. The child also learns to arrange the pegs in order according to the colors. Some boards have numbers in it, which enables the child to learn number skills through play-way-method.

Aim : To give exercises for cerebral palsy children
Moving the ball to and fro on the set form helps cerebral palsy child to loosen its rigid fingers & limbs etc.

Aim : To develop concentration for the children
Puzzles are an excellent means by which the child could learn and develop its level of concentration, visual perception & co-ordination. It even improves color concepts in the child. There are various types of puzzles to suit various age groups.

The child learns to recognize the numbers and the child's perceptive skill improves. It helps the child how to set the clock and read time.

Power Laundry :

It is one of the major income generating programs to lead the institution. Equipped with ultra- modern machineries, we wash linens for star hotels, Industrial units and exporters, along with whom our hostel needs are also met. This unit provides employment opportunities to 19 physically and 3 mentally retarded adults.The Southern Railway have been our major client since January 1997 . With total automation facility in our laundry we are equipped to wash, dry and press 10,000 pieces of linen per day.

Green Valley Spring Mineral Water :

The Metropolitan city of Chennai faces water scarcity usually during the summer time and the water that reaches people are also defile in nature. Bearing this in mind, to provide drinking water to the public and also to generate income for the organization, mineral water plant was started in 1995 in the name and design of "Green Valley Spring" supplying ozonised mineral water through packets, bottles and cans. This plant has developed a market of its own in the cities of Chennai and has maintained a quality of the product as per the Indian Standards. The plant has also given employment to Eight handicapped adults.
